His father, John Dickens, was a clerk in the navy pay office. He was the second son but he had 7 brothers. His father went to a prision in Marshalsea in 1824, he was sent there for debtors.

In 1816, he studied in Chataham and spent two years there.


He moved to…


First they moved to London to look for work and then, because debtors, they had to move to Marshalsea.

He worked in…



When they moved to Marshalsea, he won some shilling pasting labels, then he was a clerck and finally he became a reporter in the laws cort and in the London news paper. He earned 80 dolars a year.

He had 10 sons and no one of them wanted to be writters. He was one of the best writters in London. He let a book unfinished, it was: “the mystery of Edward Troot".
